What the press says about FindWord
Swiss commercial newspaper "Cash" No. 41, 10.07.04
»Anyone wishing to peruse his Windows disk for an
indistinctive term ([e.g. the german surnames] Maier, Meier or Meyer)
is most likely to find help with FindWord. Not only
does it support wild cards (M??er) but it also has a clever extension
with its category search. It can, for example, list all your Mails
in which swiss city names occur, or can find all documents which contain
web addresses. Furthermore, FindWord can handle flections,
and the search for "Baum" [tree] also finds "Bäume" [trees].«
Computer magazine c't, No. 14, 06.28.04
- »All the terms in your textual data are displayed and
selectable in the lists of the word and category searches, as soon
as you type the beginning of a word into the key field.«
- »If the user chooses the operator AND, then the list is
updated to show only those terms which appear together with the
previously entered term, thus allowing a concerted research.«
- »The partially very powerful category search allows the choice
of various topics, for example all cities in Germany, Austria or Switzerland.
Further available topics are currency, nations, Email, http, number or
refence.«
- »The category search is a real plus - one opens
a topic and sees what one's own documents contain on that topic.«
- »FindWord comes out on top with its category search,
which - unique amongst the test candidates - can list for example all Email addresses
or german towns. If someone is looking for something but does'nt know exactly
what, then FindWord delivers the solution.«
Computer magazine c't No. 22, 10.21.02
- »A further strength of the program is the display technique. After
clicking on the category "Technical" an alphabetically sorted list of all the
technical terms used in the indexed documents of this category appears in the
lower window. A click on one of these terms, for example "offset printing",
selects in turn those documents containing this term, which allows a fast
and direct search using only the mouse, even when the term to be sought is
not exactly known.«
- »FindWord ... is convincing due especially to the extra indexing of
references, dates and web addresses. A further advantage is the display technology:
only the terms actually used in the documents appear in the preview window, which
is inviting for searches with the mouse rather than a command language.«
Computer magazine c't No. 20, 09.25.00
- »Practical in both cases is that the user
immediately sees if the word he is looking for occurs at all in any of
his documents. During input a separate window lists all files found,
thus enabling immediate access.«
- »The possibilities to search for references, dates,
and Internet- or Email-addresses are particularly sophisticated. For this purpose
the developers have included special parsers, which recognise all possible formats
and sort them into the appropriate categories: 09.31.00 and September 31, 2000 both
equate to the same value. This speciality can be of particular
value to law firms and tax advisors. A further striking feature of the program
is its knowledge of the old and new [german] spelling rules.«
The legal magazine NJW-CoR awards 4 out of 5
possible points in issue No. 6, 09.19.00:
- »The handling is simple and clear. ...
All in all a very useful package offering good value for
money.«
Computer magazine CHIP No. 03 / 2000
»Using it is childs play:
For a new project just enter the drive and directories to be searched and start
the index run. The program sorts all the words, numbers, dates and even reference
numbers it finds in two different ways: on the one hand alphabetically, on the
other hand into categories such as computer, politics, sport and so on.«
